When the interior goes outdoors

Denton Entry numero un

I wake up this ‘morning’ and decided that I will not turn my 3rd (i think) weekend here into another indoors weekend. It was around lunch time and I decided to take a walk to Art Six, on Bryan Street. I could not wait to sit down, work on the Typography class while sipping on my mint mocha.

If you know me, you probably cannot believe that I even considered going on a 20 minutes walk in the Denton sun (95F)…

Very well equipped—sub block, sunglasses, water bottle, and map quest directions redrawn on my post-it note—I started my mini-adventure.

I decided that I would use what I can remember from the pythagoras theorem and cut through campus buildings to get to my mint mocha faster. Needless to say, I got lost…a few times…and wandered around for 40 sweaty minutes! No one in Denton walks which made it harder for me to seek direction. But after some guy directed me towards the land of coffee, I literally saw light and air conditionning at the end of the hot, steamy tunnel. The sign screamed Art Six and ‘half a block,” i cheered myself.

But…as I got closer to Art Six, my heart broke, my forehead veins almost popped and the sweat fountain froze when faced with the ‘Sorry, We’re closed for renovations’ sign.

I was in no condition to keep walking. I had to cool down, wipe off or maybe collect then drink the sweat dripping off my whole body, breathe and vent. I sat on the outdoor swing, used my shirt as a towel and wiped off my face, neck and arms (yes, the shirt is in the washing machine right this second). I then made some phone calls and made my way back home…

I was trying to avoid walking on an empty stomach. I stopped at Fera’s, asked for a table for 1, swallowed my pasta and meatball and my sweet tea (not comparable to the Raleigh one…) and made it back to my apartment.

I am still craving for a mint mocha but there is nooooooo way I am leaving my apartment today.

I am not bitter at all about this…I actually was forced to look at my surrounding and explore the area…which I would never voluntarily do. I also learned that I should keep a towel in my bad, coz sweating in Denton is a b*. I will never ever try to be smarter than mapquest.

I will go back this week, after they reopen and are all renovated.
